The Astronomers' Ring - The Heavens on your Finger!

The Astronomers’ Ring is a beautiful example of a wearable armillary sphere, based on models from the 16th century. At first it looks just like an ordinary ring. Looking a bit closer, you will see that it consists of five separate interlocked rings that can be rotated around their axes. This way the ring can be folded out to form a miniature planetarium. The AstroMedia Astronomers’ Ring is made from a galvanically gold-plated zinc-copper alloy.

The inscriptions are inspired by the astrologically motivated astronomy of the 16th century:

The two outer rings are inscribed with: Ptolemaius invenit = Ptolemy invented it Copernicus invertit = Copernicus reversed it Joh. Kepler calculavit = Johannes Kepler calculated it AstroMedia fecit in MMXXI = AstroMedia made it in 2021

On the outside of the middle inner ring you will find the symbols for the signs of the zodiac.

Its inside is inscribed with the symbols for Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

The two inner rings are inscribed with the four classical elements (fire, air, water, earth) in Latin, German, and English.

he Astronomers’ Ring comes in a velvet lined cardboard presentation box including a leaflet with instructions and historical information

Diameter: 20 mm (inner), 33 mm (outer)
