We are pleased to present the latest addition to the NYX series of harmonic motion mounts from Pegasus Astro: the new Pegasus Astro NYX-88 mount, an even more compact and lighter harmonic drive mount than the NYX-101!

The Pegasus Astro NYX-88 mount, designed with the travelling astrophotographer in mind, offers an impressive load capacity of up to 14 kg without the need for counterweights. The mount weighs only 5 kg! Designed for precision and performance in astrophotography and observational astronomy, this mount ensures continuous and reliable operation.

Equipped with harmonic-motion motors on both AR and DEC axes, the Pegasus Astro NYX-88 mount guarantees a play-free experience with high torque even at maximum loads. Its fully CNC-machined 6061 aluminium alloy body, anodised in black and blue, combines durability and aesthetics. Inside are high-quality brand-name components, including stepper motors and harmonic motion reducers, guaranteeing impeccable long-term performance.

The mount also includes an electronic brake on the RA axis to prevent backtracking when the power is off, as well as safety stops during rotation or tracking. • Light and portable: lightweight design with high load-bearing capacity; aircraft-grade construction, CNC-machined AL6061 aluminium alloy; compact: the mount weighs only 5 kg!
• High-precision harmonic motors: harmonic gears on both axes ensure high load capacity and smooth operation without backlash; by combining a stepper motor and belt drive with sophisticated electronics, the AR axis achieves a remarkable resolution of 0.15 arcseconds, offering very low periodic error for ultra-smooth and stable tracking with sub-arcsecond accuracy.
• It supports high imaging loads for its class: counterweights are not required for payloads up to 14 kg (31 lbs); at a weight of 5 kg, the mount supports a payload of up to 14 kg, demonstrating a high load-to-weight ratio; higher payloads can be installed using an optional counterweight shaft.
• Equatorial or altazimuth mode: can be used in either German-style equatorial or altazimuth mode; easily switch modes via PC, remote control or mobile application.
• Safety brake: the safety brake on the AR axis guarantees an instant and safe stop in the event of a power failure.
• Integrated wireless and USB operation: seamless connectivity: Wireless and USB2 supported simultaneously; wide compatibility: works with ASCOM Alpaca, ASCOM, INDI and LX200 protocols.

Other key features

• 12 Volt DC battery operation: the NYX-88 Pegasus Astro mount requires only 12 V for smooth operation, allowing a standard 12 V battery to be used without additional converters. The mount consumes less than 0.6 amps during tracking and up to 2 amps during pointing.
• Universal clamp: the low-profile universal clamp fitted on Pegasus Astro's NYX-88 mounts accepts Vixen and Losmandy-D type dovetail plates.
• Integrated ST-4 autoguiding port: an ST-4 port is available, compatible with the hand controller dedicated to the Pegasus Astro NYX mounts or with a guiding camera with ST-4 port and respective connection cable.
• Secure DC output: there is an additional DC output (GX-12 connector) on the side of the mount capable of delivering up to 8A to connected devices.
• Reverse polarity protection: the Pegasus Astro NYX-88 mount is designed with reverse polarity voltage protection. An excellent solution in case of accidental voltage or battery polarity reversal during the night.
• Optional counterweight: the Pegasus Astro NYX-88 mount does not require counterweights for payloads up to 14 kg. However, if it is necessary to install counterweights for heavier payloads, there is a compatible M12 threaded hole at the end of the DEC axis.
• Automatic slew to Home: the automatic home position feature is implemented with encoders on both axes. Mount can automatically initialize to home position on request.
• ASCOM, Alpaca & INDI: the mount fully supports ASCOM 7, ASCOM Alpaca and the INDI framework. Sky-Safari, which allows you to control the mount via your mobile device, is also supported.
• LX200 protocol compatibility: the LX200 protocol is fully compatible with the NYX-88 support. Any device that supports the LX200 protocol, such as Sky-Safari, works perfectly with the mount.
• Mobile Control: a mobile application for the IOS and Android platforms allows the user to control both axes of the mount, pointing on installed catalogues of thousands of night sky targets, and approximate polar alignment via an electronic polar assistant.
• Mount position saving: the mount saves its position every second and restores it upon boot.
• Firmware upgradeable: an easy firmware upgrade process via USB cable or Air (Wi-Fi) allows you to stay up to date with bug fixes and the latest features of the mount.
