The use of additional accessories such as cameras, dew shields, tele-extenders, and 2-inch diagonals and eyepieces affects the balance of telescopes. It is therefore necessary to restore proper balance by adding one or more counterweights, in order to achieve smoother mount corrections and improved tracking accuracy.
Perfect balance is not required for the telescope to operate correctly. In fact, achieving perfect balance is not always possible when weights are fixed in position. The goal is simply to reduce or eliminate any movement when tightening the Right Ascension (RA) and Declination axis locks on the mount.
Additional counterweights help you achieve proper balance and ensure greater overall stability of the telescope.
