The TeleVue Nagler Type 7 series has been developed as a natural extension of the popular limited edition TeleVue Apollo 11 mm 85° eyepiece. However, this new series of Nagler eyepieces can also be seen as an extension of the Nagler Type 4 eyepiece series characterised by a very high eye relief.

With the brand new optical design of this Nagler Type 7 series, TeleVue promises to achieve the goal of similar performance to the TeleVue Apollo 11 eyepiece in a range of focal lengths that are also compatible for eyeglasses wearers!

Design goals

The goal TeleVue set itself with the Nagler Type 7 project is simple: the performance of each of the focal lengths must be equal to or better than the TeleVue Apollo 11 eyepiece in terms of full-field sharpness, contrast, distortion correction, eye relief and observational comfort, but over an apparent field of 82° instead of 85°.

If you have been waiting for a TeleVue Nagler series suitable for eyegalsses wearer, the new Type 7 is the one! By combining a wide apparent field of view of 82°, an impressive 19 mm eye relief and a large field lens, the TeleVue Nagler Type 7 eyepieces give new meaning to the 'space walk' effect.

Each eyepiece has a lens hood that can be easily adjusted to the desired height for those who do not wear glasses. The mechanic helps to position the eye correctly in relation to the exit pupil to prevent unwanted light from interfering with vision. To this end, we have applied all the optical coatings and baffles for which TeleVue eyepieces are known the world over, maximising contrast and corrected field of view, as well as giving perfect sharpness and high colour fidelity on star colours.

The optical layout affords unrivalled parfocality throughout the four focal lengths and even between 1¼” and 2” modes when used with the TeleVue Hi-Hat 1¼” to 2” adapter (TV-ASF-8125). The TeleVue Nagler Type 7 series is also parfocal with all other 1¼” Tele Vue eyepieces (except 40 mm Plössl) when those eyepieces are used in the Tele Vue Hi-Hat 1¼” to 2” adapter (TV-ASF-8125). Available in focal lengths of 5.5, 9, 14, and 19-mm, the Type 7s complement the 22-mm Type 4 and 31-mm Type 5 as eyeglass friendly Naglers.
